The violence committed in the name of religion in Iraq and Syria threatens the survival of religious minorities, the social and religious fabric of relations between religious communities, as well as religious institutions and communities in the region. In November, KAICIID organized a special conference of influential religious leaders and policymakers to highlight existing initiatives and sketch out new responses to this violence. The meeting presented a multi-religious composition and perspective, connecting policy makers with the highest religious leaders and drawing in new voices and organizations. The religious leaders issued a unified condemnation of any violence in the name of religion and agreed upon a set of recommendations to support diversity in the region. This report presents highlights from the conference, recommendations and the intiatives that KAICIID is now working toward under the Peacebuilding Initiative.
