Rakhmat Hidayat is a respected member of the faculty at the State University of Jakarta’s Department of Sociology. He earned his PhD from the Department of Sociology at Université Lyon 2, France. His research primarily focuses on the sociology of ethnicity and Indigenous Peoples in Indonesia, particularly the Sunda Wiwitan community in West Java.

Rakhmat has contributed significantly to research publications and community service within the Sunda Wiwitan community. He is actively involved in networks of scholars and activists dedicated to protecting and supporting Indigenous Peoples in his region. His accolades include being a 2019 fellow of the interfaith fellowship on the project “Southeast Asia: Advancing Inter-Religious Dialogue and Freedom of Religion or Belief” (SEA-AIR), a fellow of Freedom of Religion and Belief (FoRB) supported by CRCS UGM, and a 2022 KAICIID fellow from the South-South East Asia cohort.
