Chief Executive Officer, Indigenous Peoples Commission

Neil Bacchus has a degree in Public Management and professional qualifications in Project Management including a master’s in Project Management. He is a Project Management Professional (PMP).

Currently he is the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Indigenous Peoples Commission, which is one of four Rights Commissions established under Article 212 G of the Guyana Constitution and is tasked, inter alia, with setting up mechanisms to enhance the status of indigenous peoples. In this role he enjoys managing the secretariat and working to serve the people of his country, especially his indigenous brothers and sisters.

Neil is a long-term volunteer as a community, religious and youth leader. He is a member of the Inter-Ministerial Task Force on Trafficking-in-Person and a board member for ICT Access and E-Services for Hinterland, Poor and Remote Communities as well as a former board member on the Amerindian Development Fund and the Amerindian Land Titling Project.

He is an executive member and the Assistant Secretary/Treasurer of the Interreligious Organization of Guyana (IROG) and an executive member and secretary of the Muslim Youth League of Guyana (MYL) as well as a director and assistant treasurer on the Guyana Interreligious Television Inc (GIRTV).

Neil is a sworn Rural Constable and the secretary of the Eccles Policing Community and Action Group, former Vice Chairperson /Secretary of the Success Community Policing Group, PRO of the A2 Divisional Community Policing Group and the secretary of the ISA Islamic School Parents Teachers Students Association.

Currently he is chairman of two projects – the EE Eccles Recreation Park and the Le Repentir Muslim Cemetery. He has been a long-term volunteer with the Guyana Foundation Inc. – a leading NGO taking the fight against mental health and suicide.
