Dr. Martha Njiiri is a communication expert with over 15 years of experience working with non-profit, public, and private sectors as a consultant, researcher, trainer, and lecturer in the areas of development communication, support communication, strategic communication, capacity development, and applied research.

Martha is particularly interested in how to effectively integrate communication to promote peace and security through strategic initiatives aimed to promote understanding, facilitate dialogue, and enhance capacity to design and disseminate effective messages that foster social cohesion and discredit extremist narratives. 

Martha is currently the Head of Strategic Communications at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Centre of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ICEPCVE) where in her role she provides expert support to key stakeholders including community and religious leaders, civil society and youth to develop strategic communication plans that adequately inform their peacebuilding initiatives and trains them on how to develop and disseminate effective counter and alternative narratives to discredit violent extremist ideologies in the Horn of Africa.

Dr. Njiiri holds a PhD in Mass Communication from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Masters degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi, and a Bachelor's degree in Communication (Public Relations) from Daystar University.
