Abubakar Akande is currently the Peace Strategy and Interfaith Research Lead of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), the apex body superintending over the affairs of Islam and Muslims in Nigeria. Akande has held the position since 2019, where he leads on the design and implementation of interfaith and peace projects. He also serves as the national co-chairman of the Youth Forum of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (YF-NIREC). Abubakar uses this platform to promote interreligious dialogue to bring about peace, sustainable development, and communal well-being. He equally represents Nigeria in the Kenya-based African Interreligious Youth Network, the youth division of the African Council of Religious Leaders (AfCRL).

He is interested in promoting a culture of dialogue, peace-making, peacebuilding, and strengthening developmental efforts. In the past, Akande has co-championed the establishment of the Youth Forum of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), and he coordinated the interreligious effort that produced the anti-corruption manual through the Interfaith Anti-Corruption Advisory Committee (IAAC) of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He also likes traveling and playing badminton.
