KAICIID to Participate in 5th World Scout Interreligious Symposium

25 January 2017

The International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) will take part in the 5th World Scout Interreligious Symposium from 25 to 29 January in Huntington, New York, and provide dialogue training for Scouts from around the world. The Symposium, coordinated by members of the Boy Scouts of America’s Religious Relationships Committee and the Interreligious Forum of World Scouting (an informal network of religious organisations and groups in Scouting), takes place every three or four years, and engages Scouts from all six regions of the Scout Movement who are involved in interreligious and intercultural activities within Scouting.

Prior to the main programme of the Symposium, a 2-day dialogue training will be delivered jointly by trainers from KAICIID and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).  During the Symposium, KAICIID’s delegation will participate in sessions and discussions related to interreligious and intercultural dialogue, spiritual development and duty to God within Scouting, as well as the Dialogue for Peace Programme.

This Symposium will be hosted at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, supported by the World Scout Bureau.

The Dialogue for Peace Programme

KAICIID and WOSM work closely together on trainings and workshops promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue on the international, regional and national levels to increase the number of dialogue facilitators and trainers among Scouts. KAICIID and WOSM want to improve relations between people of different religions and cultures. One of our joint projects is the Dialogue for Peace Programme, enhancing dialogue values for Scouts of different age groups. The programme will offer three levels to develop Scouts’ dialogue skills: the Dialogue Badge for all sections; the Dialogue Facilitator Badge for the Venture/Rover sections and adult leaders; and a dialogue training for Scouts interested in promoting dialogue in their communities.
