Cairo, Egypt, July 29, 2024 – The International Dialogue Centre - KAICIID underscores its continued support for platforms promoting ethical dialogue, highlighted by Secretary General Dr. Zuhair Alharthi's participation in the ninth International Fatwa Conference organized by Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta under the umbrella of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide.
The “Fatwa and the Ethical Foundation in an Accelerating World” conference, held in Cairo and organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, convened global religious and ethical leaders to address the pressing need for ethical guidance in today’s rapidly changing world.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Shawki Allam, Egypt’s Grand Mufti and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, highlighted the ongoing regional and international crises. He emphasized Egypt's pioneering role in addressing these challenges and noted the rapid pace of change in today's world. Dr. Allam stressed the responsibility to safeguard human society from moral decline.
KAICIID seeks to explore collaborative initiatives on how Fatwas can support the ethical system, reinforce shared human values, and address urgent moral challenges amid the current global conflicts and crises.
During his mission in Cairo, Dr. Alharthi engaged in pivotal bilateral meetings to strengthen interfaith dialogue and cooperation:
1. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States: Discussions focused on regional stability and promoting dialogue across Arab states.
2. Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf of Egypt: Collaborative efforts to support religious education and ethical guidance.
3. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif: Enhancing interfaith cooperation and understanding.
4. Omar Marwan, Head of the President's Office: Addressing the role of governance in fostering ethical foundations.
5. Amb. Saleh bin Eid Al-Husseini, Saudi Ambassador to Egypt: Strengthening ties and collaborative projects between KAICIID and Saudi Arabia.
6. His Holiness Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria: Promoting Christian-Muslim dialogue and community engagement.
7. Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki Stephanous, President of the Protestant Community of Egypt: Enhancing the role of Protestant communities in social services and ethical discourse.
8. Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League: Joint initiatives to combat extremism and promote peaceful coexistence.
