Nine Religious Leaders Convene in the City of Lisbon, Marking New Chapter

The International Dialogue Centre – KAICIID held its 28th Regular Session of their Board of Directors in its new host city of Lisbon, Portugal on 20 February 2023, marking a new chapter in the organisation’s history.

The Board of Directors consists of nine religious leaders from across the world who review and approve the organisation’s annual programme of work providing insights from their regions and areas of expertise.

“Our Board of Directors provides valuable perspectives on interreligious and intercultural dialogue from major religions and regions. These perspectives are vital to ensuring we remain on the forefront of dialogue, as conveners and facilitators, in critical areas around the world,” said Dr. Zuhair Alharthi, Secretary General of KAICIID.

Chaired by Dr. Kezevino Aram, the Session involved engaging discussions and sharing of ideas among members and staff, including KAICIID's Secretary General, Dr. Zuhair Alharthi, KAICIID's Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador António de Almeida-Ribeiro, and senior leadership. The Board unanimously approved the re-election of Dr. Kezevino Aram as Chairperson and Dr. Mohammad Sammak as Vice-Chairperson for the 2023 calendar year.

”KAICIID has a remarkable history of bringing religious leaders together – locally, regionally and globally. We are proud of our legacy and impact in interreligious and intercultural dialogue and look forward to expanded impact over our next decade.” (Dr. Kezevino Aram, Chairperson)

KAICIID is a unique intergovernmental organisation with a dual governance structure of a Council of Parties made up of four Member States and a Board of Directors made up of religious leaders. This structure enables us to bring together followers of different religious traditions, religious leaders, and policymakers together in dialogue to find common solutions to shared problems.
