Although COVID-19 has resulted in many restrictions for younger generations, such as school closures and cancelled gatherings, that didn’t stop young people from demonstrating their continued leadership and initiative in supporting each other and their local communities.

According to the UN, young people are and will continue to be hugely affected by the pandemic’s socioeconomic impacts; however, they are also active in global response and can be an important force for community outreach in times of crisis, especially for health and education. Youth took the chance to turn challenges of the pandemic into opportunities by finding creative and innovative ways to provide support for the communities that needed it most.

International Youth Day provides an opportunity to celebrate young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement.

Join KAICIID and its partners, The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and A Common Word Among the Youth (ACWAY), in leading youth organizations around the world to discuss how youth are responding to the health and education crisis. This webinar aims at recognising the importance of youth participation in social, educational and health processes and developments.

Program Manager at Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights

Monica Tawdros is a projects Manager at Maat for Peace, Development, and Human Rights. Maat association is an Egyptian NGO based in Cairo since 2005. For more than 15 years, Maat has implemented more than 30 projects in cooperation with almost 25 international development partners. Maat is in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, a member of the General Assembly of the AU ECOSOCC, the coordinator of the North African Group at the UN HLPF, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian National Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation, and obtains an observer status in African Commission on Human and Peoples’ rights.

Monica has participated in several youth exchange programs and attended different Youth mobility projects by Erasmus+, which promotes the role of Youth in enhancing peace and combating extremism. In 2019, she managed a regional project on UNSCR 2250 supported by the North-South Center of the Council of Europe, and in 2020, she managed an IRD project that was responsive to the Covid-19 pandemic supported by Kaiciid. She is also a youth worker and trainer for young activists on countering terrorism and hate speech, as well as building peace through international mechanisms. She is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

 

Jaya Dani Mulyanto

ACWAY Fellow, Rethinking Youth Programme, UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development 

Dani has been engaging on the issues of youth, interreligious-intercultural dialogue, peace education and social cohesion for more than 10 years. He has been working with local, national and international entities, particularly in Asia. He is currently holding a consultant position for Rethinking Youth Programme, UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development. He graduated from the UN-Mandated University for Peace (Asia Leaders Programme, dual campus with Ateneo de Manila University) with a degree in International Peace Studies. He wasa 2015 Morroco ACWAY alumni.

Nour Elhouda Mahmoudi

WOSM Global Youth Representative 

Nour serves as one of the youngest executive board members in the history of the Algerian Muslim Scouts, she is a WOSM global youth representative and is co-leading the Human Rights advocacy area and advocating for better human rights education for young people. A Scout since the age of eight, she is now proud to be part of the planning team of the 14th World Scout Youth Forum, which is World Scouting’s flagship youth decision making forum. Nour is 26 and holds a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the National Institute of Urbanism and Architecture in Batna, Algeria.

Pauline Kagiri

Former Messengers of Peace coordinator Africa NSO (Kenya), Former Eastern Africa youth Secretariat, Global Messengers of peace Heroine 2017, Founder of Girl Scouts Empowerment Programme

Pauline is an active scout who engages on various scout activities and Initiatives that involves Community development projects. She have volunteered with UNHCR (Daadab refugee camp Kenya)  on Scouting for peace and is currently working on the ongoing projects based on Gender based violence (Female Genital Mutilation) under the Messenger of peace.

Yasmeen Arnous

Yasmeen Arnous is a graduate of the Central European University in Vienna where she holds a Master’s degree in Nationalism Studies. She has dedicated a substantial part of her studies to religion, identity and politics across the globe. She has previous experience working in research and communications in the Middle East. Currently, she is an intern with KAICIID working with the Dialogue Knowledge Hub.
